The Bonobo is the closest relative to humans along with chimpanzees. Bonobos have been said to be capable of complex human emotions including empathy, patience, and kindness. They share many other similarities with humans including face to face sex (rare in animals), vocal communication, and strong facial expressions.
Bonobo’s only live in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and are endangered. The population has dwindled to a few thousand Bonobo’s during the Civil War due to armed forces in protected habitats.
