There have been five periods of mass extinction in the history of the world. While the exact causes of each period are unknown, it is known that they were caused by natural events. Massive volcano eruptions, asteriods, ice ages are all likely candidates. This sixth event is not natural. This time, we are responsible. As our population exploded, technology improved, we destroyed the environment to suit our needs. We are now responsible for the greatest threat to our planet.
But there is a silver lining to all of this. We caused it, so we must fix it. But we can fix it. Waddlebird and Conservation International have developed a method to tackle this challenge. By protecting hotspots, or areas of dense life, we can be successful. Rainforests cover only 3% of our planets surface, but over half of its life. Over 750 million dollars has now been put toward this Conservation strategy. Conservation International estimates than an investment of $100 Billion will be needed to protect the hotspots around the world. The war in Iraq has used well over $200 Billion to date.
$15 protects one acre of rain forest. Protect your acre today.
