The Giant Petrel has gray-black plumage and resembles the albatross. The birds are very aggressive and will hunt both on land and at sea. They will scavenge for food, or kill squid or krill at sea. They are even know to kill other birds on flights over water by drowning.
The Australian Government lists the birds as Endangered, and the IUCN lists them as Near Threatened.
Chicks take 2 months to hatch. It takes the bird over 6 years to reach sexual maturity, so population growth is a slow process. Help get the Giant Petrel back on the right track and back to a large population.
