The Golden Eagle dominates the sky. Females, which are much larger than males, have wingspans reaching up to 8 feet. The birds eyes can spot small predators from miles away, giving light to the phrase ‘eagle eye’. With sharp talons and powerful grip, they are dangerous hunters. When food is low, they are known to scavenge. Their strong beaks allow them to tear apart larger prey.
While Golden Eagles are a protected species, they continue to be hunted and poisoned. A destruction of habitat has hurt their population. Recently, due to conservation efforts, the Bald Eagle was removed from the IUCN Red List.
